    MySQL Database Questions
Home < FAQ Pages < MySQL Database

How do I create a mysql database?
1- Log into Cpanel 2- Click Mysql 3- Enter the name of the database in the Db field 4- Click on the AddDB button. The database will be added to the /var/lib/mysql folder.

How do I add a user to the database?
    - Log into Cpanel - Click Mysql - Enter the user's name in the Username field and the user's password in the Password field - Click on the add user button - Select back - Choose the specific user from the User drop-down list and the specific database to grant permissions to from the Db drop-down list - Click on the Add user to DB button. The user now has permission to use that database and sample connection strings are shown in the mySQL window.

How do I connect to Mysql?
Login to your control panel and go to the 'Manage MySQL' page. Create a database and then create a user. (Then, make sure to give the user access to the database). Then you should be able to connect to MySQL with this information: Server address: localhost Database name: {account_user_name}_databasename Username: {account_user_name}_username Password: password where {account_user_name} is your Cpanel account user name and username and databasename is the name of the user and database you created in the 'Manage MySQL' area respectively.

What version of Mysql do you have?
    We run 4.0.15-standard

How many MySQL connections can I use?
We restrict clients to a maximum of 25 concurrent sql connections. We also ask clients to not use "pconnect()" (or disable it in their script config files if available). If your MySQL demands are too intensive for a shared hosting environment (will not matter to 99% of our clients) we will advise you of this.

Is MySQL DB space included in the total amount of my space?
Yes, your MySQL database is included in the total disk space for your account, and thus counts against your disk space usage.

Can I use remote scripts to access MySQL Databases?
Unfortunately we cannot offer remote access for MySQL -- Particularly, there are several known vulnerabilities related to remote MySQL connections that we would be opening the server to if we allowed this.

How do I backup and restore my database?
    - Log into Cpanel - Select Mysql - Select Php Myadmin Select all the tables in the right page and then check the "Structure and Data" radio box and 'Save as File' but don't check the zipped or gzipped options. Click 'Go' and it will prompt you to start a download of your database, save it as a .sql file where you will be able to find it later. Then, if you needed to restore your database, you'd want to login to PHPMyAdmin and check all the tables and 'drop' them. Right below the 'run queries' box on the right page you can select a local file from your computer to upload and run, and that is where you'd pick the .sql file you backed up. It'll take a few minutes to upload and process, and then it should show up fine.

Can my database's be backed up automatically?
    - Log into cpanel - Select cron - Put the following in the first field 0 0 * * * - In the second box place: mysqldump --opt --user=database_user --password=database_pass database_name > /home/username/foldername/backup.sql Please note you will have to replace the values with your real information. This will backup your database every night at 12pm.
